Our Soul’s Calling
A friend just called me to say she got some work in and, as grateful as she is that it’s finally arrived, she said, “Oh, I wish I had known what my true calling was, or at least listened harder to my intuition years ago when my parents veered me into the academic world of teaching, which was to become my life´s work. Don´t get me wrong, I often loved teaching the teenagers and was good at what I did, and am now good at the work I do related to a different aspect of university work, but oh how I wish I could feel it was my soul´s calling like I see in the way you have always known yours, and how your love for spirit, together with that of animals, was a special love and calling for you – I see your passion for what you do, and I would love to feel that too.”
Meditation can be helpful when we are searching for answers of any kind and we can connect to the source of our being this way. Doing so will help us feel more guided and directed in finding our vocational ´niche in this world´. To do so is much better than worrying and overthinking what we are being called to do. We all came to this world with a calling – we just need to listen. Our creativity is expressed in doing something which fires us up each day. There are bus drivers, street sweepers, hairdressers, etc. who touch other souls on a daily basis just with a kind word, a touch, or just by being in their healing presence for a short time.
Some decades ago, a friend gave me the gift of a psychic reading for my birthday. The gifted Psychic and Astrologer in question always drafted a chart for customers based on information he received regarding the customer´s time, place, and date of birth prior to each reading. I guess I had been expecting to hear about meeting a wonderful man I would be meeting in the future, and where my next port of call would likely be, as I have moved around the world so often. Well, my friend got that kind of reading. She was told in detail about her divorce and details about her work and a new man she would be meeting. My reading, on the other hand, was all about my ´calling´ which would connect to the path of esoteric counselling, more in line with that which the counsellor in question was doing. It all looked very obvious too when he explained the symbols and layout in my chart. Although it appeared very complicated on paper, it made sense when he explained it all. At the end of the session, although I loved the prospect of doing what I AM now doing, I asked, “What about my soul mate, and what about the money I need to pay rent?” His answer was short and to the point, “Manifest those things you want!”
Often customers will call in on behalf of themselves or youngsters searching for an answer as to what their career path and calling truly should be. Sometimes, like myself, as much as we feel love for something (as I did for all things spiritual), there are certain experiences we have to have before embarking on our true vocation. I was lucky enough to follow my calling as I do now, and, even better, surrounded by my animals. I worked in corporate in years gone by, and so I can identify with the challenges and stresses of both the work, as well as working with some ´challenging´ individuals. There was what I call my ´Alcoholic career´- not one to be recommended, but I see now how these experiences help me understand, and be able to relate to others, even down to situations when I have been accused of something I didn´t do. On top of that, a very lonely and dysfunctional childhood gives me great empathy for others who are currently going through, or who went through unpleasant experiences in their early life. I know what a huge role forgiveness has played for me and I hope I have been able to help others see the futility of them hanging onto resentments over family drama or any kind of betrayal issues they´ve experienced.
To quote the late Louise Hay, “What you love to do, you do well, and what you do well, will earn you money.” She was right and you will inspire and uplift so many others along the way when you hear and follow that calling of yours!
